Welcome to DIR.ie – The Driving Instructor Register of Ireland. We hope that you will find this website useful and informative. This website has been made to provide information for current driving instructors in Ireland and people who wish to become a Driving Instructor. Our goal is to provide the best information and guides possible for Driving Instructors. We do this because we believe in promoting the highest standards in Driving Instruction.  We believe the best way to do this is provide quality information and insights for current Driving Instructors and people who are interested in becoming a Driving Instructor. This ensures more capable, safe drivers and a safer country for all road users in Ireland.

As of April 2009, all Driving Instructors must be on the Road Safety Authority’s Approved Driving Instructor’s Register. Approved Driving Instructor’s are commonly known as ADI’s.  To become an ADI, an instructor must be assessed by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and meet all the standards as required by the RSA. The purpose of this process is to ensure that all Learner Drivers are getting the best possible learning experience from their lessons from a Driving Instructor. The product of this is better drivers and increased safety for all on the roads.

Here at the Driver Instructor Register of Ireland, we will provide information and tips on the RSA’s Qualification process for Driving Instructors. There are three main stages involved in becoming an RSA Approved Driving Instructor – Driver Theory Test, Practical Driver’s Test and the final Instructor Ability Practical Exam. We will provide information, guides and tips for all three stages of the Qualification Process.

Becoming an ADI requires a great deal of Practical and Social Skills Training. There are a number of Training organisations in Ireland. Our website will provide information on ADI training for passing ADI exams with the RSA..
